The Texas Community Music Festival kicked off in Austin April 29, 2006, at Central Market North, and drew approximately 10,000 over the four days to the central Austin location, far exceeding expectations, and setting the stage for what has now become a Central Texas tradition.

Austin — The thirteenth annual Texas Community Music Festival opened Friday evening to one of the largest and most enthusiastic opening night crowds in Festival history. Pleasant weather and a killer lineup drew music lovers to Central Market, who were rewarded with tight and exciting performances by Boss Street Brass Band, the Stray Bullets and Rhythm Congress.
