Sunday ends on a “Silver” note!

AUSTIN — The fifth annual Texas Community Music Festival completed its first weekend of music Sunday at Central Market North with stirring performances by Lisa Clark’s Swingin’ Caravan, the Republic of Texas Big Band, the ACC Jazz Ensemble and Austin Jazz Workshop.

The largest single weekend crowd in TCMF history jammed Central Market North from downbeat Friday night through the evening on Sunday, and the musicians responded with stellar performances.  Among Sunday evening’s highlights was the appearance of longtime bandleader and arranger Dr. Tom Husak, who has been recovering from recent illness, and the presentation of the 2010 educational program by the Austin Jazz Workshop, who this year has dedicated its program to the works of jazz legend Horace Silver.

The Texas Community Music Festival resumes Monday at 6pm at historic Scholz Garten with performances by the Pecan Street Brass Quintet, Austin Wonderbrass and Republic of Texas Big Band.

As always, TCMF performances are free admission.
