Monday’s CM Cafe Special — JAZZ!

Austin Jazz Workshop performs its Miles Davis program at TCMF11

Austin — The Eleventh Annual Texas Community Music Festival served up an ‘all you can eat’ portion of jazz Monday night on the cafe deck of Central Market, with two of TCMF’s longtime and most beloved ensembles.

The evening began with the Austin Jazz Workshop presenting their Miles Davis edition, one of their most popular programs from the past year.  AJW, a 22-year music tradition in Austin area schools, recently performed it’s 2,000th school program and TCMF is celebrating its accomplishment with three programs at this year’s festival.   Mike Melinger and the AJW performed its Gershwin program over the weekend.  Miles was on the deck Monday night.  Thursday at 5:30, “The Panther Prowls” again, with AJW’s Henry Mancini program.

Bobby Davis and the 19-piece Austin Jazz Band then blew the crowd away, with an extended set of big band jazz, performed by some of Austin’s finest jazz artists.  High, low, fast and slow … the Austin Jazz Band performed it all, and to the delight of the audience.

Because of regional flooding and potential weather threats, the Austin Brass Band was unable to appear.

TCMF11 continues Tuesday at 5:30pm with the Violet Crown Flute Choir, followed by Dead Random at 6:45.  The evening’s headliner will be Manteca Beat, featuring the incomparable Paul Klemperer on sax.  If you missed Paul over the weekend,  you don’t want to miss Manteca Beat tonight!

Come on down to Central Market Cafe, 4001 N. Lamar, for Day 5 of TCMF11.  We’ve got something for everybody tonight and every day this week!
