2019 Opening Weekend Another Success for TCMF! Festival Continues Rain or Shine All Week!

Rhythm Congress headlines opening night at TCMF 19

Austin — The Fourteenth Annual Texas Community Music Festival kicked off Friday at Central Market and rolled through a gorgeous weekend in Austin with memorable performances on all three days.

Music lovers not only came to Central Market, but stayed in droves as Bubba Coletrane, The 512 Four and Rhythm Congress kicked off the 10-day festival Friday night.  Guest artist Kat Brotherton (yes, the same Ms. Kat who hosts the festival), helped Rhythm Congress close the show.

Saturday’s program featured the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble, the hosts of the Festival, and might have set a record for the single most musicians to appear at Central Market on a single day, as the Hill Country Community Band of Marble Falls and the Hill Country Community Band of Wimberley each appeared, along with the Austin Brass Band, fresh from their musical road trip to the big brass band competition in Indiana.  The audience was also treated to performances by longtime TCMF artists, the Dixieland Accidentals and the Stray Bullets, along with showcases by Trilogy Clarinets, Hill Country Polka Band and American Skiffle.

Saturday evening’s headliners, the Texas Horns, blew the house away.

Sunday began bright and early with the Austin Polka Band and featured a typically eclectic mix of concert repertoire courtesy of the Waterloo Wind Band and TCMF originals, Band of the Hills, Big Band Swing, from Not Past 11, the ACC Stage Ensemble and Armadillo Swing Band, and traditional Jazz with the Chaparral Dixielanders (another TCMF original!).  The Samodivas, Candace Hastings, Haley Harkin and Stephen Brown, each showcased their talents on our cafe deck stage.

Sunday night patrons were treated to a program of originals by TCMF favorites, Boss Street Brass Band.

The program continues Monday at 5:30pm with Made in the Shade and will continue every weeknight beginning at 5:30pm, rain or shine!  Please consult the complete schedule and make plans to join us at Central Market!

TCMF is brought to you by the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble and graciously hosted again by Central Market North.  Our generous sponsors are Ms. Kat’s Music and Movement and Westbank String Shop.
