GORGEOUS Sunday of Music at TCMF 8.1

Kunitan performs Andean folk music on sunny Sunday at TCMF 8.1

Austin —  The 8th (and a half) annual Texas Community Music Festival started off with a little bit of “Old Timey” music and finished with a floor ablur with swinging dancers, as we’ve all come to expect from Texas’ most diverse and eclectic music festival!

Special guests from Houston, the Traveling Murphys, led off the show with a bluegrass version of the classic Rock tune “Wipe Out,” which set the stage for the  wide variety of music that was to come all day.

Brunchers enjoyed the performance of La Grosse Tete, one of Austin’s most exciting new traditional jazz groups, and then saw repeat performances by TCMF veterans, Austin Banjo Club, Pecan Street Brass and Lohman’s Crossing.

TCMF then featured another Oktoberfest set, performed by the Brushy Creek Brass Band, one of the favorites at the world-famous Walburg Restaurant and biergarten in Walburg, TX.  They were making their first of what we hope will be many appearanced at the festival.

Beautiful music drew people from all over the retail center as the crowd built throughout the day, and showed their love to Kunitan, who presented a lively program of Andean folk music as the sun began to set, giving way to the Gypsy-Parisian style jazz of Hot Club Soda.

It has been a long day, but that didn’t stop people from dancing the night away to the evening’s headliners, Rhythm Congress, who put down a funky session that keep people on their feet til closing time.

TCMF 8.1 continues Monday at 5:30pm with Woot Talley and the Box, followed at 6:45 by Las Gasbacha-chas.  Monday’s headliners are the Austin Jazz Band, under the baton of Bobby Davis.

TCMF 8.1 concludes Tuesday evening with ACC Jazz night, with the ACC Stage Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Steven Sodders at 6:00, followed by the ACC Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Tom Husak, featuring Grammy Award-Winner Redd Volkaert and American Idol/X Factor star Stacy Seals.  It’s going to be a huge show, so don’t miss it!
