TCMF Spotlight: The Katie Holmes Project

The Katie Holmes Project will be making its first appearance at TCMF.  Come enjoy their performance on Monday, April 22, at 5:30pm at Central Market North!

At the young age of 5 years, when asked If she wanted to play violin or fiddle, Katie stated “I want to play the music you clap your hands and stomp your feet to”.

And so it began.

Learning from and spending time around fiddle greats Johnny Gimble, Mark O’Connor, Buddy Spicher, Paul Anastasio, and Randy Elmore, Katie grew up inspired by music of older generations. As she dug deeper she found a passion for Django Reinhardt and Stephanne Grappelli’s Hot Jazz, as well as Italian film composer Nina Rota, and one of France’ most beloved musicians, Serge Gainsbourg.

As a part of the Austin music scene, Katie has started the Katie Holmes Project featuring original tunes reminiscent of Rota, Gainsbourg, and even Bob Marley and Andrew Bird. In the quest for identity, the combination of Katie’s singing and playing, accompanied by bass and drums has been coined “Sling Music” to encapsulate the roots and inspiration behind the band!
