TCMF Spotlight: Hill Country Brass

Hill Country Brass performs Sunday, April 21.

Hill Country Brass will be making their first appearance at the 2013 Texas Community Music Festival.  Come see them Sunday, April 21, at 5:15pm.

Hill Country Brass was founded in 1989 as a student group at Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University, in San Marcos, Texas. The group quickly developed into a professional brass quintet, performing extensively throughout the state of Texas and beyond. Hill Country Brass is dedicated to bringing the joy and grandeur of brass to music lovers of all ages.

Most people might think that a brass quintet (or chamber music ensemble) only plays traditional classical music. While that is a lot of what Hill Country Brass does play, its repertoire is quite extensive. In addition to classical, they play contemporary, blues, jazz, show tunes, marches, artist features (solos), Christmas music, German music, rags, Dixieland, patriotic, religious, wedding music and more.

Performing with Hill Country Brass today are band leader Randy Heaton and Ron Ledbetter on trumpet, Paul Dixon on French horn, Brenda Sansig on trombone, and Keith J. Robinson on tuba. All are involved in other musical pursuits in addition to their participation with Hill Country Brass.

I have been a follower of HCB since they formed and have tried to attend most public performance. I can guarantee that they have music for just about every preference. I personally favor their ’40’s and patriotic music. Go, listen and enjoy. And when they really get “cranking”, I defy you to to sit without at least tapping your toes!
