TCMF Spotlight: Trombonium Sinfonium

Trombonium Sinfonium, from Greenville, TX

Trombonium Sinfonium, from Greenville, will be making their second appearance at the 2013 Texas Community Music Festival.  Last year, they showed an appreciative audience how hard a low brass ensemble can rock!  Come see them Sunday, April 21, at 1:15pm.

Trombonium Sinfonium is the brain child of Greenville Texas Middle School band director Aubrey Williams.  With the instrumentation limited to trombones, euphoniums, tubas, plus rhythm section, the group’s sound is truly unique.  First started as a teaching aid for high school trombonists, it quickly became a magnet for low brass players, both high school and adults in the Greenville area.  Performing publicly for the first time in May 2000 at a local music variety show called “Floorshow”, the group has been entertaining audiences since.

The name itself came from a former choir director at Greenville ISD named Marsha Fincher.  It is meant to imply “A Symphony of Low Brass”.  The group performs up to 13 concerts in its season, which runs from September to May.  Performances at local Oktoberfest celebrations, church services, and fundraisers for local charities fill out our calendar, with the music ranging from polkas, traditional, jazz, rock, and county/western.  We have had the good fortune to be the only community group invited to perform at MENC national convention in Dallas in June 2003 and at the International Tuba/Euphonium Symposium at Baylor University in March 2011.  Each December and May our Christmas and Pops Concerts are broadcast over our local cable channel.
